UIN Jakarta-BNPB plans to open disaster management study program
Rectorate, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta, along with the National Agency for Disaster Mitigation (BNPB) continue to finalize cooperation plans between the two institutions, one of them is about opening a disaster management study program.
It was stated at during the meeting in the main meeting room, campus I of UIN Jakarta, Wednesday (01/22/2020), attended by the vice-chancellors, deans, and other officials. The meeting also scheduled an explanation of the collaboration plan submitted by the Head of the Legal and Cooperation Agency of BNPB Zaherman Muabezi.
Zaherman in his presentation said that Indonesia is in one of the world's most natural disaster-prone areas and is at risk to multiple hazards, including flooding, earthquakes, landslides, tsunami, volcano, and cyclone.
The potential for disasters in Indonesia itself, he continued, are varied according to its geographical conditions. In addition to economic impacts, disasters also have social impacts
“Therefore, the involvement of tertiary education institution, especially UIN Jakarta in disaster mitigation is absolutely necessary,” he said.
In response, Vice Rector for Cooperation of UIN Jakarta Andi Faisal Bakti welcomes the the collaboration between the two institutions in accommodating the issue of disaster through the curriculum and the opening of the disaster management study program. According to Andi, all leaders at UIN Jakarta also agreed that the issue of disaster could not be separated from the entire study program.
“From the perspective of the Faculty of Science and Technology, for example, disaster is related to natural problems. Likewise from the point of view of the Faculty of Economics and Business, disaster can be seen from the economic aspects of disaster,” he said.
For information, several universities have started opening disaster management study programs such as Gadjah Mada University, Universitas Pertahanan, UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, and Airlangga University. However, most of them are offered at graduate level. (usa/zm)
