UIN Jakarta-Baznas Collaborate to Enhance Zakat Literacy
Jakarta, UIN News Online – In a strategic effort to strengthen zakat literacy and scholarship in Indonesia, the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) and UIN Jakarta have joined forces to cultivate well-trained experts in zakat, infaq, and sadaqah. This collaboration was highlighted during a Stadium Generale event at UIN Jakarta’s Graduate School (SPs) on Tuesday, (22/10/2024).
The event featured a keynote address by the Chairman of Baznas RI, Prof. Dr. KH. Noor Achmad, MA., who emphasized the crucial need for enhanced zakat education. “The general public's understanding of zakat remains limited, and it is our responsibility to address this through dedicated literacy efforts. UIN Jakarta, as a center of academic excellence, plays a pivotal role in preparing future leaders who will become not only zakat scholars but also ambassadors of zakat in society,” he said.
Noor also pointed out that improving zakat literacy is essential for the broader Islamic finance ecosystem. "With more scholars focusing on zakat-related research, we can expect a rise in academic output, including theses, dissertations, and peer-reviewed journals in multiple languages, contributing to the global body of Islamic knowledge,” he added.
His presentation, Building Skilled and Excellent Human Resources for Baznas and LAZ, outlined the roadmap for cultivating knowledgeable, ethical, and competent amil (zakat administrators) who can drive impactful changes in society through zakat programs.
Also present at the event, UIN Jakarta’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., SH., MH., MA., lauded the initiative. “This partnership exemplifies UIN Jakarta’s commitment to advancing the zakat sector in Indonesia. By nurturing zakat professionals who are not only well-versed in theory but also capable of practical implementation, we hope to foster a new generation of zakat leaders who will transform communities,” he remarked.
The event underscores UIN Jakarta’s role as a key player in driving intellectual and practical growth in the field of zakat, infusing fresh perspectives and innovative approaches into the management of Islamic philanthropy. Through such initiatives, UIN Jakarta and Baznas RI aim to build a future where zakat plays a vital role in addressing socio-economic challenges, empowering communities, and uplifting the nation’s prosperity.
This collaboration is seen as a significant step towards establishing a more literate, skilled, and sustainable approach to zakat administration in Indonesia, reflecting the broader vision of creating a well-informed and capable generation of zakat professionals for the future. (Photo by: disway.id)
