UIN Jakarta asks Saudi Arabia to support campus development program
Jakarta, UIN News Online – As a country that has good relations with Indonesia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has an important role for Indonesia, including in the development of Islamic educational institutions. Therefore, UIN Jakarta as one of the leading Islamic educational institutions hopes to get support in campus development programs.
The assistance proposal for UIN Jakarta was conveyed by Rector Amany Lubis during a meeting with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sheikh Essam bin Abed Al-Thaqafi, at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Jakarta, Tuesday (06/29/2021). During the visit, Rector Amany Lubis was accompanied by the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development Lily Surayya Eka Putri and lecturer at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities Ali Bahar.
“During the visit, we conveyed many things, including assistance proposal for the development of UIN Jakarta,” said Rector Amany.
According to Rector Amany, UIN Jakarta in principle asks Saudi Arabia to provide support for human resource improvement programs through Islamic educational institutions. She also said there were several important points discussed during her meeting with Sheikh Essam bin Abed Al-Thaqafi. Among them are the acceptance of UIN Jakarta in congresses and seminars at various universities in Saudi Arabia, participating in the King Faishal international award for the academic community of UIN Jakarta, scholarships for UIN Jakarta students in Saudi Arabia and financial scholarships at UIN Jakarta, request for funding assistance for the construction of a mosque in the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) building, funding assistance for the construction of student dormitories, and financial assistance for the construction of the Dirasat Islamiyah Faculty building.
“We also discussed the lecturers and students exchange program,” she said.
However, according to Rector, another important discussion with Ambassador Sheikh Essam bin Abed Al-Thaqafi was regarding support for the implementation of the "Green Campus", particularly financial assistance in the development of solar energy and research in the field of renewable energy.
Responding to these proposals, Ambassador Sheikh Essam bin Abed Al-Thaqafi responded positively. He promised to convey and discuss these proposals to the relevant ministries and agencies in Saudi Arabia, including with a number of university leaders. (usa/ns)
