UIN Jakarta and Universiti Putra Malaysia Forge Stronger Ties in Research and Hospital Management

Malaysia, UIN News Online — UIN Jakarta is enhancing its cooperation with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in various areas, including research collaboration, fellowships, educational staff internships, and hospital management. This exploration took place during the recent visit of UIN Jakarta Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A. Ph.D., to Malaysia on Thursday (August 1, 2024), following his role in leading the first session of the Asian Islamic University Association (AIUA) in Perak, Malaysia, during the last week of July.

During this visit, Rector Asep Jahar toured the university ranked 148th in the QS World University Ranking. He also had the opportunity to visit UPM's teaching hospital, Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAS).

Accompanying the Rector were Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development Din Wahid, Ph.D., Head of the Center for International Cooperation Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, and Director of RS Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta drg. Marisa Julinda Marzuki, MH.Kes., Sp.Pros. The team was received by HSAS Director Prof. Dr. Hamidon Hj. Basri, UPM’s International Academic Office Head, and other officials from UPM and HSAS.

During the visit, there was an intensive discussion about various fields for potential collaboration, including research partnerships, fellowships, educational staff internships, and hospital management. Regarding hospital management, the discussion highlighted the potential collaboration between RS Syarif Hidayatullah and RS Haji UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta with HSAS, including doctor and nurse visits, and research in medicine, health, and psychology.

It was noted that doctors at HSAS, who also serve as faculty members in the medical and health faculties, offer research opportunities in neurology, geriatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics, and gynecology with UIN Jakarta's two hospitals, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Psychology. They are even willing to serve as external examiners for theses and dissertations in these fields.

Additionally, the discussion about educational staff internships included plans for sending 10 UIN Jakarta staff members for internships at UPM in September. The internship program is open to staff involved in finance, academics, cooperation, and planning.

For research and education, UPM is opening broader opportunities, especially following the renewal of the MoU between the two universities, for other faculties such as the Faculty of Economics and Business, and the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication. With an International Research Network score of 80.5 out of 100, UPM is a highly potential partner for high-impact research and publication for the academic community at UIN Jakarta. (Maila DHR/ZM)
