UIN Jakarta and Ministry of Religious Affairs Host International "Road to INSPIRE 2026" Documentary Screening to Promote Global Peace

FDIKOM Building, UIN Online News – The Center for Religious Harmony of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (PKUB Kemenag) and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta organized a special event titled "Road to INSPIRE 2026: Screening of Harmony and Peace Films" on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Held at the FDIKOM Theater Room, the initiative aims to strengthen collective efforts in peacebuilding and preserving social diversity.

The screening, serving as a prelude to the International Symposium for Peace, Integrity, and Responsiveness on Eco-Theology (INSPIRE) 2026, was opened by the Head of PKUB Kemenag, Dr. Muhammad Adib Abdushomad. The event was also attended by UIN Jakarta's Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, and the Dean of FDIKOM, Prof. Dr. Gun Gun Heriyanto, along with faculty vice deans and members of the academic community.

In addition to the documentary screening, the event featured the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between PKUB Kemenag and FDIKOM, finalized by Dr. Abdushomad and Dean Heriyanto. The partnership focuses on boosting collaborative academic programs centered on religious moderation, interfaith harmony, and peace literacy.

During the session, attendees watched the documentary series Indonesian Pluralities, a collaborative masterpiece produced by the Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies at Gadjah Mada University, the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, and Watchdoc. The film offers a rich portrait of how Indonesian grassroots communities preserve diversity, manage differences, and construct shared living spaces despite complex social and national challenges.

Through humanistic and reflective storytelling, Indonesian Pluralities showcases Indonesia’s capacity to utilize cultural and religious diversity as a form of social capital to generate national harmony. The 30-minute documentary captures the dynamics of interfaith relations while demonstrating how dialogue, solidarity, and universal human values serve as vital foundations for national unity.

In his opening address, Dr. Muhammad Adib Abdushomad emphasized that INSPIRE 2026 is designed as a global collaborative platform to project international peace values based on Indonesia’s rich experience in maintaining interfaith harmony.

He noted that the documentary serves as a collective mirror showing that peace does not happen overnight, but is built on a willingness to listen, understand, and respect differences. "Indonesia has a long history of nurturing diversity, and it is crucial that we share this experience with the world," he stated.

Supporting this view, Vice Rector Ali Munhanif stated that universities bear both a moral and academic responsibility to instill humanitarian values, religious moderation, and respect for diversity.

UIN Jakarta, he added, views cultural and humanitarian dialogues of this nature as essential tools to solidify students' national character. "The Indonesian Pluralities documentary series delivers an invaluable lesson that differences are not a reason for division, but a source of strength to build solidarity and a shared future," he noted.

He further pointed out that campus environments must remain safe spaces for inclusive thinking, mutual respect, and cross-identity collaboration to tackle increasingly complex global disruptions. He hopes that this movie screening serves as an active dialogue arena for the younger generation, academics, and the public to reinforce collective awareness that harmony is a primary prerequisite for national progress and global peace.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FDIKOM, Prof. Dr. Gun Gun Heriyanto, commended the Road to INSPIRE 2026 initiative, describing it as a strategic avenue to broadcast messages of peace and tolerance through cultural and media-driven approaches. "Documentary screening is a highly effective medium to raise awareness among the youth about the significance of safeguarding harmony in a pluralistic society," he said.

The Professor of Political Communication also expressed hope that the newly signed partnership would continue to evolve through joint programs in education, research, community outreach, and media-based literacy campaigns. "This collaboration will reinforce our faculty's role as a center for peace building, tolerance, and intercultural dialogue," he concluded.

As part of the broader INSPIRE 2026 series, this event reaffirms the Ministry of Religious Affairs' commitment to deploying creative, participatory approaches to campaign for universal human rights, tolerance, and inclusivity. Through this documentary, participants are invited to see that Indonesia's pluralism is not just a social reality, but an inspirational model for the world in creating a civilized and peaceful future.
