UIN Jakarta Alumni Encourage Graduates to Keep Learning and Contributing
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News – A total of 829 graduates of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta were officially inaugurated on the third day of the 141st Open Senate Commencement Ceremony for Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs for the 2025/2026 Academic Year on Saturday (September 12, 2026). During the event, representative of the UIN Jakarta Alumni Association, Dr. Saleh Partaonan Daulay, M.Ag., M.Hum., M.A., urged graduates to uphold faith-based values and continuously expand their knowledge to benefit society.
The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., alongside the Chairman of the Senate, Prof. Andi Faisal Bakti, M.A., Ph.D., and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie, S.Ag., S.H., M.A., M.H. Also present were university and faculty leaders, lecturers, administrative staff, as well as parents and guardians. On the third day, the inaugurands comprised 449 graduates from the Faculty of Dawah and Communication Sciences, 117 from the Faculty of Psychology, and 263 from the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Dr. Saleh, a graduate of UIN Jakarta's Graduate School and a current Member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), noted that education at UIN Jakarta derives its strength from synthesizing core monotheistic values (tawhid) with applied sciences. In his view, this integration provides a solid foundation for graduates across various spheres of life, including when confronting societal challenges and navigating the workforce.
“First and foremost, faith and devotion must be carried forward. Having knowledge and intelligence is meaningless if you fail to bring benefits to others,” Saleh stated.
He also cautioned graduates against treating commencement as the end of their learning journey. Rapid advancements in information technology and digital systems—including Artificial Intelligence (AI)—demand that graduates continuously update their knowledge to keep pace with change and produce relevant contributions.
“Never stop learning. If your learning ends here, then your knowledge stops here as well. And if your knowledge stagnates, you will not be able to keep up with ongoing developments,” he emphasized.
According to Saleh, continuously refined knowledge must be directed toward broader societal impact. It is not enough for graduates to merely master their respective fields; they must also generate creative and innovative ideas, programs, and solutions to address community needs.
“The knowledge we acquire must deliver tangible benefits—for ourselves, our families, our communities, and ultimately our nation. Be individuals who step into society and create an impact through creative and innovative means,” he expressed.
This message aligns with his view on UIN Jakarta's identity, which should extend beyond being a place of instruction. He selected the word “inspiring” to summarize what alumni should embody post-graduation—leveraging knowledge to exert a positive influence within society.
“UIN Jakarta does not merely inspire us and serve as a place of learning; it nurtures generations who are capable of inspiring the broader community,” he remarked.
Saleh also reminded graduates to honor and obey their parents, who provided unwavering support throughout their academic journey. For him, academic success must be accompanied by a responsibility to uphold the values acquired during university life and to continue growing after leaving campus.
“As long as your parents are with you, ensure that your devotion to them is never forgotten,” he advised.
Saleh’s address reaffirmed that graduation is not the conclusion of the educational journey. UIN Jakarta graduates are expected to carry faith and devotion, honor their parents, continuously update their knowledge, and transform learning into creative and innovative endeavors. Armed with these principles, an academic degree ceases to be a mere personal accomplishment and becomes the cornerstone for serving families, communities, and the nation.
