UIN Jakarta Achieves Top Four Status Among PTKIN in UI Green Metric 2024

Rectorate, UIN Online News — UIN Jakarta has made a remarkable leap, ranking fourth among State Islamic Universities (PTKIN) in the 2024 UI Green Metric (UIGM). This success is expected to spur UIN Jakarta to further its environmental stewardship on campus.

According to data from the UI Green Metric, as reported by UIN Online News on Wednesday (18/12/2024), UIN Jakarta achieved a score of 7450 in 2024. This score was calculated based on the following areas: Setting & Infrastructure (850 points), Water (750 points), Energy & Climate Change (1475 points), Transportation (1425 points), Waste (1500 points), and Education & Research (1450 points).

With this score, UIN Jakarta ranks fourth among PTKIN, following UIN Raden Intan Lampung (8650), UIN Sultan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi (7925), and UIN Raden Fatah Palembang (7750). Nationally, UIN Jakarta stands at 36th, and globally, it's at 316th place.

Following the certificate presentation for the UI Green Metric rankings, Prof. Dr. Hendrawati, M.Si., Head of the Green Campus Task Force at UIN Jakarta, expressed her gratitude for the university's progress. She noted that UIN Jakarta has moved up three ranks from 39th to 36th nationally since the last year.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), UIN Jakarta has advanced three positions since 2023. Our previous rank was 39, and now we're at 36. Additionally, our score rose by 540 points, from 6,910 to 7,450 in 2024," she explained.

The Professor from the Faculty of Science and Technology emphasized that UIN Jakarta should feel optimistic about its UI Green Metric ranking progress. Among PTKIN, it has achieved the fourth spot.

"Our global ranking has also seen an improvement, moving from 381 in 2023 to 316 this year," she added.

Prof. Hendrawati extended her thanks to the university's leadership and academic community for their support and collaboration in achieving this UIGM ranking, particularly in executing programs and collecting data under the six UIGM criteria.

"This year's achievement should inspire us to push for even greater improvements. Let all components of UIN Jakarta commit to embedding sustainability into our daily practices, both on campus and in our personal lives," she stated.

Separately, Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Affairs, Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation, noting that the 2024 results reflect the hard work of the Green Campus Team, especially with the increased participation in UIGM this year.

"We are optimistic about climbing higher next year; by December 2024, we've launched numerous initiatives to foster a green campus, although these efforts are not yet reflected in the UIGM data," he said.

Din Wahid's optimism is well-founded since this year, UIN Jakarta has enacted several policies to support the green campus initiative, including relocating parking, introducing electric vehicles on campus, enhancing waste segregation facilities, and planning further programs for 2025.

The 2024 UI Green Metric rankings have been announced, with several universities receiving their certificates at the national sustainable campus awards event at Graha Sanusi, Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, MM., M.Sc., Chair of UIGM, disclosed that in 2024, 1,477 campuses from 95 countries took part, including 183 from Indonesia.

She explained that new indicators for 2024 include tracking green startups and jobs, aiming for the optimal implementation of green campuses. "Through these efforts, we aim to restore and maintain the environmental balance," she concluded. (ESR/ZM/Photo: Adib Taufiqurrohman)
