UI GreenMetric: Japanese and Philippine Delegates Experience UIN Jakarta’s Environmentally Friendly Campus

JAKARTA, UIN Online News – Showcasing its commitment to environmental sustainability and modern inclusive education, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hosted an immersive campus tour for international delegates from Mindanao State University (Philippines) and Yamagata University (Japan) on Monday, July 20, 2026. Convened as the second-day highlight of the Asian Traditional and Cultural Exchange (ISEATRAC) 2026, the initiative provided foreign scholars with direct, lived exposure to Indonesian Islamic higher education.

Organized by the Southeast Asian Studies Regional Exchange Program (SEASREP) Foundation in strategic partnership with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and UIN Jakarta, the program was personally guided by UIN Jakarta Vice Rector for Student Affairs Professor Ali Munhanif alongside SEASREP representative Girard Bauyon.

For the visiting delegates, particularly the academic cohort from Japan, exploring Campus 1 offered a refreshing perspective on modern Islamic university life. Boarding the university's zero-emission Electric Bus (Bilis), the delegates observed UIN Jakarta’s active Green Campus initiatives, dynamic student organization hubs, and specialized infrastructure designed to ensure accessibility for students with disabilities.

"SEASREP emphasizes genuine people-to-people contact," noted the organizational facilitators. "By navigating our green transport network, library facilities, and vibrant student spaces, foreign delegates gain an authentic understanding of how progressive Islamic values coexist with environmental stewardship."

The academic tour proceeded to the UIN Jakarta Central Library, where foreign delegates engaged in spontaneous peer-to-peer dialogues with local Indonesian students. The interactive reading room session allowed participants to exchange cultural perspectives, explore shared research interests, and read through specialized Southeast Asian collections together.

The second-day itinerary concluded with an official Gala Dinner hosted at the National Information and Communication Technology (NICT) Building. By combining green technology, academic accessibility, and warm intercultural hospitality, UIN Jakarta demonstrates to international observers that Indonesian Islamic higher education is eco-conscious, deeply inclusive, and fully equipped for global competitiveness.
