Two Decades of Synergy: LIPIA Delegation Visits UIN Jakarta to Expand Strategic Saudi-Indonesian Academic Partnership

Main Conference Room, UIN Online News – The collaborative partnership between UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) through the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences (LIPIA) has entered a progressive new chapter. A high-level delegation from LIPIA visited the UIN Jakarta campus on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, aiming to ensure the sustainability and expand the scope of a joint academic ecosystem that has thrived for over two decades.

This meeting reaffirmed the historical commitments outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) initially signed on December 12, 2005 (11 Dzulqa'dah 1426 H). That foundational agreement serves as the legal and institutional framework for both higher education entities to deepen scientific, educational, and cultural cooperation.

During the welcoming session, the representatives of the LIPIA delegation emphasized that the synergy between these two major Islamic educational institutions is deep-rooted. Since 2005, various strategic initiatives have been successfully implemented, ranging from student exchange programs to joint academic research.

"We came here today to ensure that our collaborative research and programs continue to function optimally. While our institutional agreement remains permanently active, we want to explicitly state that this partnership holds vital importance for both universities," the head of the delegation remarked.

According to the official framework guiding the partnership, several core areas continue to be prioritized and strengthened, including:

  1. Academic Exchange: Facilitating mutual exchange visits for lecturers, research professors, and students within their respective areas of academic specialization.

  2. Arabic Language Reinforcement: Organizing advanced training courses for students and faculty members to enhance methodological and scientific competencies, specifically in Arabic linguistics and Islamic cultural studies.

  3. Research and Publishing: Fostering joint research projects and executing the mutual exchange of peer-reviewed scientific publications between the two universities.

  4. Scientific Events: Co-hosting international seminars, symposia, and academic conferences.

Beyond reviewing the existing pillars of cooperation, the visit also carried a forward-looking mission to expand the scope of the treaty to encompass broader academic domains. Dr. Walid bin Abdullah Al-Uthman expressed optimism that the future steps taken by LIPIA and UIN Jakarta will propel both institutions toward grander academic achievements, creating a substantial impact on human resource development in both Indonesia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"We intend to expand our joint research initiatives so that we can collectively embark on a broader, more impactful academic journey than ever before," he concluded.
