Two alumnus of UIN Jakarta serve as Indonesian Ambassadors to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Two alumnus of UIN Jakarta, Abdul Aziz Ahmad dan Lena Maryana Mukti were inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia (LBPP) Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis congratulated and wished them both success in carrying out their mandate as ambassadors.

It is known that Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurated Aziz and Lena at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (10/25/2021). They were inaugurated along with 15 Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of Indonesia to 15 other countries.

Based on UIN News Online data, Abdul Aziz Ahmad graduated from the Arabic Language Department of IAIN Jakarta (now, UIN Jakarta) in 1981. He then continued his master's education at Monash University and doctoral education at UIN Yogyakarta.

Apart from teaching at an Islamic higher higher institution in Jakarta,  he has been active in a number of organizations. Among them were the Chairperson of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (1985-1988), Researcher from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (1986-2015), Commissioner of the Indonesian General Elections Commission from (2007-2012), and expert staff to the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration from (2013-2014).

Meanwhile, Lena is recorded as having completed her undergraduate education at the Educational Science Faculty of IAIN Jakarta (now, UIN Jakarta). In addition, Lena is also widely involved as a social activist such as the board of the Indonesian Women's Congress and the Indonesian Youth National Committee.

Lena was also elected several times as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PPP faction. In politics, Lena is active in the Indonesian Political Women's Caucus and the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States. She is also listed as active in the Asian Council for Religion and Peace.

Separately, Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis congratulate them on the mandate given by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador.
