Turminah's Path to Success Inspires UIN Jakarta Graduates
Main Auditorium, UIN Online News – The Harun Nasution Auditorium at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta buzzed with energy as the second day of the 133rd graduation ceremony unfolded on Sunday, (08/25/2024). Amidst the sea of proud families and friends, one guest captured everyone's attention—Turminah, Branch Manager of Bank Sinarmas Tbk.
Not just any guest, Turminah is a distinguished alumna of UIN Jakarta, having graduated in Political Science from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP). Her presence was not only symbolic but also a source of inspiration for the new graduates.
"Prof. Ali Munhanif was one of my favorite lecturers," Turminah began her address, her voice tinged with nostalgia. She recalled her university days, describing Prof. Ali as both brilliant and open-minded. Her respect for him was evident, and when he invited her to speak on behalf of the alumni, she gladly accepted despite her hectic schedule of client meetings.
"I said, 'Prof., I accept your offer,'" Turminah remembered, with enthusiasm. She reached out to various influential figures, including bank directors and former officials, to craft a message that would resonate with the graduates.
During her speech, Turminah imparted five essential lessons to the graduates as they transition into their professional lives. Her first lesson was on the value of consistency. Reflecting on her own journey from Political Science student to bank manager, she discussed the challenges of learning new skills outside her field. "Consistency is key," she asserted.
She shared her experiences in the banking industry, where she overcame doubts from others about her capabilities through persistence and hard work, eventually securing her dream position.
The second lesson was about the importance of willingness. Turminah recounted a time when she had to motivate a disheartened employee, emphasizing that "work is a form of worship" and urging graduates to maintain dedication in their efforts.
Integrity was her third point. Turminah spoke about a difficult period in her career when financial problems nearly led her to resign. Thanks to her steadfast integrity, she ultimately earned the title of Best National Branch Manager.
Fourth, she highlighted the significance of discipline. Turminah explained how discipline at her workplace led to success, noting that even her brother, who only completed high school, became a successful entrepreneur through the discipline he learned from her.
Lastly, Turminah urged the graduates to remain grateful, persistent, and prayerful. Although her initial dream was to become a doctor, she found fulfillment in banking and achieved great success. "It’s hard to believe that after so much effort and prayer, God would not be moved," she concluded her speech with hope and inspiration.
Turminah’s journey illustrated that perseverance, dedication, and self-confidence are vital for unlocking success.
