Translation Studies Department Holds SKPI Workshop: Enhancing MBKM Quality

Abdul Ghani Theater, UIN Online News - The Translation Studies Program at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) of UIN Jakarta organized a "Certificate of Competency (SKPI) Workshop: Building Independent Learning - Independent Campus (MBKM) Through Quality SKPI" held at the Abdul Ghani Theater, FAH, on Monday (03/06/2024).

Dr. Siti Amsariah, M.Ag., Vice Dean of FAH, representing the Dean of FAH, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum., CIQnR., warmly welcomed the workshop attended by several Translation Studies students and lecturers. According to her, the Translation Studies Program is the only program that initiated an SKPI workshop for students, inviting speakers who are alumni of the Translation Studies Program.

"SKPI and MBKM are two interrelated variables; SKPI cannot function without MBKM facilitation, and vice versa," Dr. Siti said in her opening remarks. She mentioned that SKPI provides a space for programs and faculties to recognize and appreciate students or graduates with additional competencies beyond the program's competencies.

The MBKM program instructs programs to provide students with as much space as possible to study other fields, even those not aligned with the program's field of study. According to Dr. Siti, the Translation Studies Program has received considerable support from various parties. It's known that the MBKM internship program in the Translation Studies Program is equivalent to 20 credits.

In line with this, Bastian Zulyeno, S.S., MA., Ph.D., a 2004 graduate of the Translation Studies Program, explained as a speaker that the MBKM program offers students the opportunity to participate in programs outside their field of study. "Interdisciplinary doesn't have to be linear," said Bastian, Head of the Arabic Study Program at the University of Indonesia (UI).

Additionally, Bastian shared stories about Arabic Studies students who successfully interned at Microsoft. Furthermore, there were Arabic Studies students who interned in non-Arabic-speaking countries. Nevertheless, Bastian advised Translation Studies students involved in the MBKM internship not to neglect the basic materials they have learned in the Translation Studies Program.

After the speaker's presentation, there was a Q&A session where students could ask questions to the speakers, followed by a group photo. Muhammad Zacky Mubarak, MA., a lecturer at the Translation Studies Program, enthusiastically awarded his chosen book to the student who was deemed by the speaker to have asked the best question.
