Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News - "Every time I come to UIN Jakarta, my heart beats faster," said the Minister of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, K. H. Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, at the "National Gathering and IKALUIN Award 2024 Ceremony" held at Harun Nasution Auditorium on Sunday, May 26, 2024. Yaqut highlighted the importance of UIN Jakarta in producing influential figures who play a significant role in shaping a moderate and tolerant nation.
Gus Yaqut, as he is commonly known, mentioned Nurcholish Madjid, or Cak Nur, who he said had transformed the perspective of Indonesian Muslims towards moderation. "I believe that without Cak Nur, the perspective of Indonesian Muslims would not be as moderate, tolerant, and understanding of differences as it is today," he said.
The Minister also explained his delayed arrival at the event because he was overseeing the rector candidacy process for the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII), where all three candidates are UIN Jakarta alumni. Yaqut stated that this event is an inspiration for UIN Jakarta to continue excelling in the future.
Regarding the Single Tuition Fee (UKT), Yaqut mentioned that an increase in UKT occurs when a university cannot cover its daily operational costs. He explained that UIN Jakarta's plan to become a Legal Entity State University (PTN BH) requires the university to manage its finances independently.
"I once instructed the rector to prepare UIN Jakarta to become a PTN BH at least from this year. However, considering the financial situation, I emphasize that UIN Jakarta needs to meet these requirements first," he stated.
Yaqut also stressed the importance of improving the hospital under UIN Jakarta and providing student dormitories and a hotel as sources of income for the university. "Prepare well, build new, I am committed to helping UIN Jakarta so that income-generating buildings can be realized soon," he added.
Additionally, the Minister addressed the issue of the U-turn in front of UIN Jakarta, which is too far. He asked the rector to coordinate with the Department of Transportation to reopen the U-turn in front of UIN Jakarta.
Gus Yaqut also instructed the construction of a pedestrian bridge (JPO) in front of UIN Jakarta to prevent accidents like those that happened before. "We must ensure such incidents do not happen again. Safety is important and must be prioritized. If small things are not taken care of, how can we handle the big ones?" he emphasized.
Yaqut highlighted the importance of paying attention to small matters by the rector to avoid doubts about his leadership. "In two months, I will come back and check if there is a pedestrian bridge or not," he concluded.
With full commitment and support, Yaqut is optimistic that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will continue to progress and achieve global recognition in the future.
