Thursina wins the Koran calligraphy competition

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Thursina, a second semester student at the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah UIN Jakarta, won the Koran Calligraphy Competition at Lhokseumawe City, Aceh. The competition was held by the Islamic Shari'a Service and the Dayah Education Agency, Lhokseumawe City, at the Jami Islamic Center Mosque Hall of Lhokseumawe on Friday-Tuesday (2-6/07/2021).

To UIN News Online, Friday (9/7/2021), Thursina said she was grateful for the award she received. She hopes that this achievement can motivate her to be better so she can record more accomplishment.

This award also adds to the series of achievements that she successfully carved out. In fact, Thursina was dubbed the calligrapher of North Aceh because she often won awards in the field of calligraphy. She received various awards such as free Umrah gifts last year.

Thursina revealed that the process of making calligraphy was very difficult, especially calligraphy for the mushaf decorstion. To make a mushaf decoration, she needed a long time to find new ideas for the creation of a harmonious and beautiful ornaments.

Another difficulty, she continued, was that the writing of Quranic verses in the calligraphy competition had to be in accordance with the khat rules.

“Calligraphy writing requires skill, patience, and consistency,” she said.

Thursina gave an example of writing the letter waw (و). This letter must be written consistently in the shape, size, and tail of the waw letter itself. “It can't be mastered in a short time, it takes years of learning,” said Thursina. (usa/fdi/zm)
