Three figures of UIN Jakarta receives lifetime achievement award

Ciputat, UIN News Online – Rector, lecturer and alumnus of UIN Jakarta received lifetime achievement award from the Al-Qur'an Printing Unit (PQ) of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) at the peak of UPQ Fest 2021 in Ciawi, Bogor, Thursday (11/11/2021). The award was given for their role in developing the study of the Koran.

The official release of the Directorate General of Islamic Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs quoted by UIN News Online stated that this year's UPQ gave awards to four people. Three of them are members of UIN Jakarta academic community. The four were the late KH Saefuddin Zuhri, Professor M. Quraish Shihab, Dr. KH Akhsin Sakho Muhammad, and Isep Misbah.

Saefuddin Zuhri was the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs for the period 1962-1967. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award for his pioneering work in establishing the Al-Quran Translating Institute in Indonesia.

Then, Professor Quraish Shihab. He was rewarded for his capacity and work in the interpretation of the Koran with Tafsir Al-Misbah as his monumental work. Professor Quraish was the Rector of IAIN Jakarta (now, UIN Jakarta) for the period of 1992-1996 and 1997-1998. In addition to Tafsir al-Misbah, he wrote dozens of books with Tafsir al-Quran as the subject.

Furthermore, Kyai Akhsin. He was awarded for his capacity as one of the scholars who have expertise in the Qirah'ah Sab'ah field in Indonesia. He is the Caretaker of the Cirebon Dar Al-Qur'an Islamic Boarding School as well as the Associate Professor for Study of Qur’an and Tafsir at the Ushuluddin Faculty of UIN Jakarta.

Finally, Isep Misbah was awarded the Lifetime Achievement for his work as a writer or Khattat Mushaf Al-Qur'an of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. Isep is an alumnus of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Jakarta (2000).

Isep is a calligrapher who is trusted to be the sole calligrapher for writing the Al-Qur'an Mushaf which since 2016 under the supervision of the Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf Al-Quran (LPMQ) of the Ministry of Religious Affairsa. His name is immortalized as the name of the font developed by the LPMQ IT Team based on his handwriting which is used as the standard for writing the Qur'an in Indonesia for both digital and print versions (Isep Misbah LPMQ Font).

The award was given directly by the Director General of Islamic Guidance at the Ministry of Religion, Professor Kamaruddin Amin. In his remarks, expressed his high appreciation and gratitude to the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Separately, the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis congratulate and highly appreciate the awarding of the three figures from UIN Jakarta. “Hopefully this will motivate the lecturers and other academic community to play an active role for the benefit of the ummah,” saud Rector.
