The University of Edinburgh-SPs UIN Jakarta to develop internatioal Islamic Studies program

SPs, UIN News Online – The University of Edinburgh (EU), Scotland in collaboration with graduate school (SPs) of UIN Jakarta plans to develop the international Islamic Studies study program, especially in Southeast Asia region through sandwich programs.

This was said by the Department Head of the Islamic and Southeast Asia Studies Nacim Pak-Shiraz and Director of Tengga and Australia-Asia Asian Studies Audrey Kon during their visit at SPs UIN Jakarta, Tuesday (07/17/2019).

Their visit was warmly welcomed by Director of SPs UIN Jakarta Jamhari Makruf, Head of SPs Master’s program JM Muslimin and Head of SPs Doctoral program Usep Abdul Matin.

According to Jamhari, this program will last for two months. Students of the SPs UIN Jakarta School will be in the EU to gain more experience and knowledge about Islam. On the contrary, students of EU will also visit SPs UIN Jakarta.

Besides being one of the top universities in Scotland, he continues, the University has a concern about the Islamic development in Indonesia. In addition, the EU also has a strong scientific tradition, especially in Islamic scientific development, such as Islamic studies rooted in classical Islamic literature.

“Another strategic value is to expand the international network as the ideals of SPs UIN Jakarta,” said Jamhari.

On the same occasion, Head of SPs Master’s program JM Muslimin said that SPs UIN Jakarta will continue to develop international cooperation in various fields of Islamic studies.

“This collaboration is expected to be able to debate UIN Jakarta Graduate School students to develop their knowledge,” he said. (usa/ns)
