The Library Center Remains Open to Serve Students
Library Center, UIN News Online – The UIN Jakarta Library Center still provides services to students during the pandemic. It's just that service during a pandemic is different from normal. Apart from limited working hours, the service also implements strict health protocols.
The Head of Library Center of UIN Jakarta Amrullah Hasbana to UIN News Online, Monday (10/05/2020) said that services for students are still open, both for borrowing or returning books.
“The library service remains open even if there are no face-to-face lectures in class. Only the working hours are limited and it is not allowed to read on the spot,” said Amrullah.
Services to students are valid on weekdays from 07.30 to 16.00. Meanwhile, the afternoon to evening service was canceled, including services on Saturdays.
Since the campus was closed during the pandemic period in March, service activities at Library Center have remained open although limited. The level of student visits was not as busy as usual.
“During the pandemic, student visits were not more than 30 people per day. While in normal times it can reach hundreds of people,” said Amrullah.
Based on UIN News Online observation, it was seen that only a few students visited the library center. Their goal is more to return books than borrowing one.
According to Amrullah, in the past two months, the library center activities have temporarily suspended book borrowing services. This is due to the fact that there is a stock taking alias checking the book collection.
The Library Center of UIN Jakarta was built as high as eight floors. The building consists of a bookshelf, reading room, reference room, seminar room, internet access, and a corner room (library corner). Thousands of book collections are also stored in this Library Center, both hard and digital copies, such as e-books and e-journals. The service is carried out by means of an online catalog or Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). (usa/ns)
