The lecturer of Interfaith Relations at UIN Jakarta is awarded Professor title

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Media Zainul Bahri, an interfaith relations lecturer at UIN Jakarta, succeeded in reaching the peak of his academic career as a Professor of Islamic Thought. This achievement is based on the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture decree Number 69111 year 2020 concerning on the Promotion of Academic / Functional Positions for Lecturers.

Contacted by UIN News Online, Monday (09/01/2020), Media expressed his gratitude for the appreciation of his academic career. He also expressed his gratitude to the leaders of UIN Jakarta, the Indonesian Ministry of Affairs, and the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture "I have received the Professor's Decree," he said.

Media has increased the number of professors at UIN Jakarta, which has continued to increase in the last two years. Previously, several lecturers had also reached the peak of their academic careers as professors such as Professor Muhammad Nur Rianto Al Arif (Islamic Economics), Professor Euis Amalia (Sharia Economics), Professor Amelia Fauzia (Islamic History), Professor Sri Mulyati (Sufism), Professor Ali Munhanif (Politics), and Professor Amilin (Accounting).

Media himself is a lecturer at UIN Jakarta in the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin and has been teaching since 2003. He is trusted to teach a number of subjects that are mostly related to interfaith relations studies such as World Religions, Religions and Contemporary Issues, Sociology of Religion, Islam in Contemporary Western Studies, Inter-Religious Dialogue, and Interfaith Conflict and Peace Studies.

Media, who is a graduate of the Darul Rahman Islamic boarding school in Jakarta, completed his undergraduate education at the Department of Comparative Religion, Bandung Islamic University. Furthermore, he completed his master and doctoral education at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. After earning his doctorate, Media pursued the Post-Doctoral program in Germany under the supervision of Professor Edwin Paul Wieringa, an expert in Indonesian Philology and Islamic Studies from the University of Köln Germany.

Apart from teaching and being a resource person in a number of academic conferences, Media also quite productive in writing scientific articles. His academic works are published in a number of national accredited journals and international journals recognized by Scopus. Some of the books he wrote are Satu Tuhan Banyak Agama: Pandangan Sufistik Ibn ʻArabī, Rūmī, dan al-Jīlī (2011) and Wajah Studi Agama-Agama: Dari Era Teosofi Indonesia, 1901-1940 Hingga Masa Reformasi (2015).
