The Integrated Lab of FK UIN Jakarta is recognized by WHO as the best PCR laboratory network
Rectorate, UIN News Online – New achievements have been made by the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UIN Jakarta. FK's Integrated Laboratory received the highest rating (100) from the World Health Organization as a Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory.
Head of the Covid-19 Integrated Molecular Services Laboratory Erike Anggraini to UIN News Online on Thursday (04/01/2021) said that the assessment of the Covid-19 Lab by the WHO quality assurance agency had been carried out since December 2020.
“The results came out at the end of February 2021 and Alhamdulillah we got very satisfying results,” she said.
Erike said the accreditation result from WHO was considered as a major achievement, not only for FK UIN Jakarta but also for Indonesia.
This is quite reasonable, because not all Covid-19 Labs belonging to universities or other medical faculties have good quality scores and have been recognized by the WHO.
“Of the approximately 600 Covid-19 Labs in Indonesia, only 170 have been recognized by WHO with varying accreditation results,” said Erike.
According to Erike, until March 2021, the Covid-19 Integrated Molecular Services Laboratory of FK UIN Jakarta had tested 9,723 specimens. A total of 3,847 (39 percent) specimens tested positive and 5,777 (61 percent) specimens tested negative.
With the recognition from WHO, Erika hopes that in the future the FK UIN Jakarta Integrated Lab will always get a lot of support from all parties. Especially in the field of molecular research development.
Dean of FK Hari Hendarto stated that the Covid-19 Integrated Lab of FK UIN Jakarta is an effort made by UIN Jakarta to assist the government, especially the Banten provincial government in carrying out molecular examinations. In addition, according to Hari, the integrated laboratory also has the ability to apply biosafety and biosecurity in the inspection process so it is safe for the surrounding environment.
“The laboratory is a Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 standard laboratory which has the ability to safely extract genetic material for the SARS CoV-2 virus,” said Hari. (usa/ns)
