Sustaining Urban Safety: UIN Jakarta Partners with Private Sector and Local Government for Pedestrian Bridge Project

Diorama Room, UIN Online  News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is set to realize the construction of an Overhead Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) to significantly enhance safety and comfort for students and the general public crossing the busy thoroughfare in front of the campus. This operational readiness follows the formal signing of a land-utilization agreement for the pedestrian bridge construction and the management of outdoor advertising infrastructure between UIN Jakarta and PT Devis Jaya. The signing ceremony, witnessed by representatives of the South Tangerang City Government, took place at the Diorama Room of the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, the Vice Rector for General Administration, Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, and the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Din Wahid, Ph.D. Representing the regulatory and corporate sectors were the Head of the Capital Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) of South Tangerang City, H. Maulana Prayoga Utama Putra, and the President Director of PT Devis Advertising, Novis Antonny Goewito, alongside various institutional stakeholders.

In his welcoming address, Rector Asep Jahar stated that the construction of the pedestrian bridge is a long-awaited infrastructural requirement for both the academic community and local residents. According to him, the asset will deliver immense benefits by upgrading pedestrian safety while mitigating severe traffic gridlocks in the campus zone.

“This strategic partnership is engineered to facilitate a secure crossing mechanism for our students and the public. For years, we have witnessed numerous traffic accidents due to the extreme vehicular density in this sector. The presence of this overhead bridge will directly reduce congestion because pedestrians will migrate from street level to an elevated pathway. Furthermore, this structure will provide comfort, security, and peace of mind for the community,” the Rector stated.

He added that the project layout has successfully cleared multiple phases of administrative coordination and regulatory licensing with relevant municipal authorities before entering its realization stage. According to preliminary blueprints, the bridge structure will feature inclusive design components specifically optimized to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

“Insyaallah, the entire university family and the surrounding community welcome this development with open arms. This is an infrastructure milestone we have anticipated for a long time. May the execution phase proceed smoothly so that this facility can be utilized immediately to provide real advantages for all,” he added.

The Head of DPMPTSP South Tangerang, Maulana Prayoga Utama Putra, highly praised the collaborative synergy bridging higher education, local government, and the private corporate sector to deliver actionable solutions for traffic management and public safety around the Campus I area.

“We warmly welcome this collaborative agreement. This initiative represents a model synergy between academia, state regulators, and private enterprises to resolve urban transportation and public safety challenges that have long been a shared concern,” he remarked.

In his view, the pedestrian bridge will offer immediate structural benefits, particularly by minimizing traffic risks and ensuring smooth public mobility in the commercial corridor.

“We hope that the construction begins promptly so that its societal benefits can be felt collectively, both for maximizing traffic flow and safeguarding road users, particularly the students and administrative staff of UIN Jakarta,” he noted.

Concurrently, the President Director of PT Devis Advertising, Novis Antonny Goewito, affirmed his company's complete corporate commitment to supporting the construction phases until the bridge is ready for public deployment. He estimated that the preparation and technical execution phases would require roughly one year to complete.

“The projected execution timeline, including the preliminary preparation checklist, will take approximately twelve months. Our institutional hope is that the presence of this overhead bridge will offer a tangible contribution toward minimizing urban traffic congestion while suppressing the accident rates that have historically plagued this zone,” he clarified.

The construction of this elevated pedestrian bridge has long been prioritized by students and commuters as the primary strategic solution to safeguard pedestrians navigating Ir. H. Juanda Street, a major metropolitan artery crossed by thousands of vehicles daily. Up until this point, the pedestrian crossing infrastructure in the area has relied heavily on standard pelican crossing signal systems.
