Supporting Students from Low and Lower Middle Income Countries
Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta is committed to expanding access to higher education for international students, including students from low- and lower-middle-income countries who may face significant financial barriers to studying abroad.
Through its Rector's Scholarship for International Students, funded through the University's Public Service Agency (BLU), the University provides comprehensive financial and institutional support that enables eligible international students to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate study in Indonesia.

Rector's Scholarship for International Students
The Rector's Scholarship is one of the University's principal mechanisms for supporting international students.
The program provides financial assistance and essential educational services throughout the recipient's period of study.
Scholarship recipients are eligible for support covering:
-
tuition fees;
-
accommodation at the University student dormitory;
-
Indonesian-language courses;
-
living-cost assistance;
-
student visa arrangements;
-
Limited Stay Permits (ITAS);
-
insurance; and
-
additional assistance where required and approved by the University.
The scholarship may support undergraduate students for up to eight semesters, master's students for up to four semesters, and doctoral students for up to eight semesters, subject to applicable academic requirements.
Supporting Students from Developing Economies
Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta welcomes students from diverse national and socio-economic backgrounds. The University's international student community includes students from countries with low and lower-middle income classifications, providing access to higher education for students who may otherwise face significant financial barriers associated with international study.
International cohorts at the University have included students from countries such as Afghanistan, The Gambia, Yemen, Cambodia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. According to current World Bank income classifications, these countries fall within the low-income or lower-middle-income economy categories. Through scholarship support, the University helps reduce the financial barriers associated with tuition, housing, daily living expenses, immigration documentation, and other costs of international education.
Comprehensive Financial and Residential Support
The Rector's Scholarship is designed as more than a tuition-fee waiver. Accommodation support ensures that scholarship recipients have access to University housing, while living-cost assistance helps recipients manage essential expenses during their studies.
The University also provides Indonesian-language instruction to assist international students in adapting academically and socially to their new environment. Visa, ITAS, and insurance support further reduce administrative and financial burdens that international students might otherwise be required to manage independently.
Supporting International Student Success
Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta also provides institutional assistance through the Center for International Cooperation Services (PLKI). PLKI manages international student administration, scholarship processes, immigration support, orientation, cultural activities, and other services designed to facilitate international students' academic and social integration. International students receive guidance from the application process through arrival and study at the University.
In 2026, a new international student cohort consisted of 23 students from eight countries, 20 of whom received the Rector's BLU Scholarship. This demonstrates the University's continued commitment to providing substantial financial assistance to international students.
Expanding Equitable Global Access
By providing tuition assistance, accommodation, living-cost support, language training, immigration services, insurance, and academic support, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta reduces the financial barriers faced by international students. The Rector's Scholarship provides an important pathway for students from low- and lower-middle-income countries to access quality higher education in Indonesia.
Through these initiatives, the University contributes to greater educational inclusion, international mobility, intercultural exchange, and equitable access to higher education across national and economic boundaries.
