Supporting Low-Income Students to Successfully Complete Their Studies
Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta is committed to ensuring that students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds receive not only financial assistance, but also the academic, personal, career, and developmental support needed to successfully complete their studies.
As part of its student-support framework, the University provides targeted support for students from the lowest household-income groups through a combination of scholarship assistance, academic guidance, career counselling, personal development, entrepreneurship support, and student mentoring.
Supporting Students Beyond Financial Assistance
Financial barriers are only one of the challenges that may affect a student's ability to complete university.
Students from low-income households may also face difficulties related to academic adjustment, career planning, personal development, professional readiness, and access to networks.
For this reason, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta combines financial support with broader student-development initiatives designed to strengthen students' ability to remain engaged in university and progress successfully toward graduation.
Career, Social, and Academic Counselling
The University's Career Center provides counselling and development services for students, including career, social, and academic counselling.
These services help students identify academic and personal challenges, prepare for employment, improve their professional skills, and make informed decisions about their future.
Programs such as Career Preparation, PERSAMI, Pekan Konseling, and Growth Buddy provide additional opportunities for students to develop confidence, communication skills, professional awareness, and personal resilience.
For students experiencing economic disadvantage, access to these services provides an additional layer of institutional support beyond tuition assistance.
Entrepreneurship Development
Entrepreneurship is also incorporated into the University's student-support ecosystem.
Through initiatives such as Localpreneur Fest, students are given opportunities to develop entrepreneurial skills, showcase products, build networks, and gain practical experience in managing business activities.
The program complements conventional career preparation by providing students with an alternative pathway toward economic independence.
In 2025, Localpreneur Fest formed part of the Career Compass Expo, alongside Job Fair and Career Preparation activities. The event was provided free of charge and was designed to help students strengthen their career prospects, continue their education, or develop their own businesses.
Development of Scholarship Recipients
Students receiving financial assistance are also encouraged to participate in development and orientation activities.
In 2025, the University organised ORMASI-KIP for 400 KIP Kuliah scholarship recipients from different faculties.
The program emphasized academic achievement, personal development, cultural awareness, social responsibility, and the importance of making full use of the educational opportunity provided through KIP Kuliah.
These initiatives demonstrate that scholarship recipients are not treated solely as recipients of financial aid. They are supported through a broader development process designed to strengthen their ability to remain academically engaged and successfully complete university.
Integrated Support for Study Completion
Through scholarship assistance, academic counselling, career preparation, entrepreneurship development, mentoring, and personal-development activities, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta provides a multidimensional support system for economically disadvantaged students. The University's objective is to ensure that students from the lowest household-income groups are not only able to enter higher education, but are also equipped with the resources, guidance, and skills required to continue their studies and progress successfully toward graduation.
This integrated approach reflects the University's commitment to reducing socio-economic barriers throughout the entire student journey.
