Supporting Academic Research: New Graduate Students of FDI Introduced to UIN Jakarta's Library Services
Jakarta, UIN Online News — The Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah (FDI) of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta held Introduction to Academic Culture and Student Affairs (PBAK) for new graduate students of the Dirasat Islamiyah program on Tuesday (September 8, 2025), at the faculty’s meeting room.
A total of 15 first-year students took part in the program, including two international students. The orientation began with opening remarks from the Head of the Master’s Program in FDI, Willy Oktaviano, Lc., M.A., followed by a visit to the Central Library.
The session aimed to equip students with knowledge about UIN Jakarta's library services while enhancing their academic literacy, particularly in accessing digital scholarly resources to support advanced research during their study.
UIN Jakarta Library Director Agus Rifai, Ph.D., also attended to provide a briefing. In his presentation, he highlighted the library’s key services, ranging from access to e-resources and reputable international journals to the use of UIN Jakarta’s Digital Library platform.
“Our library provides physical books along with the digital books, allowing instant open access to the academic world through thousands of journals and e-books. These are essential resources to support graduate-level studies and research,” he showcased.
In addition to technical guidance, they were introduced to the digital catalog system, the university’s academic repository, and strategies for effective database usage to ensure more focused and efficient research. Dr. Rifai also demonstrated how to navigate the library’s online portal and optimize academic reference searches.
“All students have legal access to a wide range of journals and digital collections. This is a tremendous opportunity to strengthen the foundation of research and produce quality academic work,” he added.
The orientation program is expected to provide a strong starting point for new master’s students at FDI, helping them cultivate a research-based academic culture from the very beginning of their studies.
