Studium Generale UIN Law Fair: A Platform to Enhance Understanding of Citizens' Constitutional Rights

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online - The Faculty of Sharia and Law of State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully held Studium Generale UIN Law Fair VII with the theme “Building Law in Accelerating Constitutional Values in the Era of Political Transformation Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.” This theme is very relevant considering that in the next few decades Indonesia will face great challenges in maintaining legal sovereignty and ensuring that legal policies taken can bring Indonesia towards the golden Indonesia of 2042. This activity took place at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Friday (25/10/2024).

The chief executive, M. Abdullah Rasyid, said in his speech that UIN Law Fair was held again this year for the seventh time, in collaboration with major institutions such as the Constitutional Court (MK), the General Election Commission (KPU), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora). ThisStudium Generale is a series of UIN Law Fair activities , as well as the opening of the debate competition and scientific writing competition which was attended by participants from 25 campuses in Indonesia. “Hopefully the implementation of UIN Law Fair 7 will bring benefits to all of us,” he concluded.

This event was welcomed by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, pulling back history, the rector explained that Islamic legal thought was born from UIN or IAIN at that time which made Islam in Indonesia peaceful and harmonious. He also emphasized that this success was obtained collaboratively as well as this event, which collaborated with the Constitutional Court and various universities. In addition, the rector also emphasized to the students that this collaboration needs to be developed continuously, especially in the current era of technological development.

“With the development of digital technology, you must be more advanced on how legal ideas, legal programs, legal solutions must be understood and developed more modernly,” added the Rector.

The same thing was conveyed by the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court (MK), Dr. Heru Setiawan. S.E., M.Si. In his speech, he also expressed his gratitude for the collaboration of MK with this event, according to him UIN Jakarta shows a high commitment in legal civilization in Indonesia. “We hope that the Court can participate in optimizing this event with the help of speakers to increase understanding of the constitutional rights of citizens,” he said.

Furthermore, the opening speech as well as the opening of the event and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was presented by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK), Dr. Suhartoyo, S.H., M.H. In his presentation, MK's collaboration with UIN Jakarta is the 3rd collaboration by contributing to UIN Law Fair activities. “We believe that universities have many thinkers who can be the mouthpiece of inspiration for the Constitutional Court,” he added.

Then, followed by the ceremonial opening and signing of the MoU between the Chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK), Dr. Suhartoyo, S.H., M.H. and UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D. The signing of this MoU is expected to have a positive impact on UIN Jakarta's accreditation.

The event continued with a Keynote Speech by Justice of the Constitutional Court 2014-2024, Dr. H. Wahidudin Adams, S.H., and Chairman of KPU RI represented by Mohamad Ihsan as well as seminars that presented a number of speakers, including Deputy for Youth Empowerment Kemenpora RI, Prof. Dr. H. Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, M.A., and Academician and Constitutional Law Expert, Bivitri Susanti, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D..

It is known that the event lasts for three days. After the Studium Generale, the event will continue with the implementation of competitions on October 26 and 27. Through this series of activities, participants are expected to understand and develop more modern legal ideas in facing future challenges.
