Students as the Frontline in the Transformation Towards an Eco-Friendly Green Campus

Diorama Room, UIN News Online - Socialization of UIN Jakarta Green Campus in order to support the realization of an environmentally friendly green campus. In line with UIN Jakarta's vision “Innovation, Green, Humanity”, green campus is the first step in realizing this vision, Monday (25/11/2024) in Diorama Room, Harun Nasution building. The event was attended by various campus elements and representatives of student organizations as agents of the implementation of this program.

The socialization was opened by remarks from the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Alimun Hanif, MA, PhD, who in his speech said that green campus is one of the big programs that is very influential for the environment. Green campus is UIN Jakarta's commitment and steps in enforcing policies to encourage an environmentally friendly campus.

Prof. Hanif underlined students as the spearhead in the success of this program. “Without the involvement of students in implementing this program green campus is just wishful thinking,” he added.

Vice Rector for cooperation and alumni, Din Wahid M.A., Ph.D., also attended the socialization. When giving a speech, he heralded this program to the entire academic community, especially to students as the spearhead of the implementation of the program. In line with Prof. Hanif, Din explained that students are a very important element in change. Efforts to create an environmentally friendly green campus can be implemented if all elements of the campus are committed to its implementation. “In the next one to two years we will become a campus that really cares about the environment,” he concluded.

Furthermore, the green campus socialization was delivered by the Head of the green campus program, Prof. Dr. Hendrawati M.Si., on her occasion she explained, the criteria for a green campus are not only free of cigarette smoke or plastic waste. More broadly includes infrastructure, energy and climate change, water, waste management, and transportation, education.

On this occasion, Prof. Hendrawati explained the aspect of waste management. Efforts to reduce plastic waste are small steps that have a big impact.  The plan is to provide three types of bins to separate types of waste to facilitate the recycling process between organic and inorganic waste. Then for environmental and infrastructure arrangements, as of December there is a transfer of motorized vehicle parking to the triguna field. To facilitate mobilization on campus, UIN Jakarta provides three (3) Electric Buses (Bilis) as an effort to reduce pollution in the campus environment.

Finally, in the scope of education, Prof. Hendrawati emphasized the importance of campus community awareness of a sustainable environment. To that end, in the future there will be a socialization program on the environment that is inserted in the learning process. This is the effort of the entire academic community who are the actors as well as the control function of this green campus program.
