Student from Madagascar was chosen as one of the best graduates at the 124th graduation ceremony
Main Auditorium, UIN News Online – Rahasimamonjy Lovanavalona Allison Candy, a student from Madagascar was chosen as one of the best graduates at the 124th graduation ceremony of UIN Jakarta (06/04/2022), held at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, campus I of UIN Jakarta. She came out as the best graduate at the faculty level with a GPA of 3.65 or Cum Laude.
Candy is a graduate of the International Relations Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UIN Jakarta. She wrote an undergraduate thesis titled "Indonesia Soft Power Diplomacy Toward Madagascar via Education and Cultural Exchange: Darmasiswa Scholarship Period 2016-2019"
Candy said she was proud to be able to study at UIN Jakarta, where the majority of students are Muslim. Even though she is a non-Muslim, Candy doesn't see it as a barrier at all. On the contrary, she feels comfortable when she hangs out with other students.
“I consider this a challenge, where I have to learn a lot about Islam and the Arabic language,” said Candy.
Candy further said that her ability to speak Indonesian was obtained through courses organized by the Language Development Center (PPB) UIN Jakarta. In addition, she also learns from her friends on a daily basis.
Candy also added that she will uphold the good name of the alma mater. “I also hope that UIN Jakarta can become a well-known Islamic university in the international world,” she added.
Candy studied at UIN Jakarta through the Independent Enrollment funded by the Darmasiswa Program of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Darmasiswa is a scholarship program offered to all foreign students from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia to study Bahasa, art and culture. Participants can choose one of selected universities located in different cities in Indonesia. This program is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)
The main purpose of the Darmasiswa program is to promote and increase the interest in the language and culture of Indonesia among the youth of other countries. It has also been designed to provide stronger cultural links and understanding among participating countries. (ns/usa)
