Strengthening Global Collaboration, UIN Jakarta Welcomes Official Visit from McGill University Provost
Main Courtroom, UIN Online News - UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hosted the formal visit of McGill University's Provost and Executive Vice-President, Prof. Christopher P. Manfredi, on Friday, December 5, 2025. This tour aimed to promote international collaboration for UIN Jakarta in developing a comprehensive academic program.
The Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., attended the ceremony and said that the visit aimed to enhance collaborative opportunities with McGill University, Canada, especially in academia. "He articulated the opportunity to explore potential collaborations with McGill University, specifically regarding comprehensive academic programs."
The Rector of UIN Jakarta intends to enhance collaboration in Islamic studies, public health, medical research, information technology, and environmental concerns. “Particularly as we observe the persistent difficulties and anguish resulting from recent calamities in Sumatra,” he underscored.
In accordance with the UIN Jakarta Rector's invitation to enhance collaboration, Prof. Christopher P. Manfredi, Provost and Executive Vice-President of McGill University, announced that McGill is presently prioritizing the environmental and sustainability initiatives undertaken by UIN Jakarta.
The Rector has already identified certain priority domains in which McGill seeks to enhance collaboration. Environmental sustainability ranks as one of our key goals. He elucidated that sustainability is included in our pedagogy, research endeavors, and institutional operations.
Furthermore, Prof. Christopher P. Manfredi highlighted that McGill has a longstanding partnership with universities in Indonesia, especially with PTKIN. He asserted that the robust social network linking McGill University and PTKIN is a source of pride. “My visit today occurs at a notably significant juncture in Canada-Indonesia relations,” he elucidated.
The visit was attended by UIN Jakarta's Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D.; the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D.; the Head of the General Administration and Personnel Bureau, Nanang Fatchurochman; the Head of the Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation Administration Bureau, Dr. Hj. Sri Ilham Lubis, Lc., M.Pd.; Professor Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem; and the deans of the faculties at UIN Jakarta.
The Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, explained that this partnership strengthens not just academic work but also includes scholarship opportunities for teacher training, skill development for staff, and student exchange programs.
This collaboration aims to enhance various domains, specifically scholarships, lecturer training, student exchanges, and administrative staff development.
"Consequently, we shall broaden our focus to encompass the domains of science, Islamic studies, environmental concerns, and issues pertaining to the halal industry." he said.
The Rector stated at the interview process, "Our aspiration is to enhance international collaboration, particularly with McGill University."
