Strengthening Collaboration Among Islamic Higher Education Institutions, UIN Jakarta Welcomes Pesantren Teknologi Riau
Academic Affairs Office, UIN Online News — UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta continues to expand its network for the 2026/2027 New Student Admissions (PMB) by welcoming a delegation from Pesantren Teknologi Riau at the Office of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation (AAKK) on Monday (27/4/2026). The visit marked an important step toward strengthening collaboration between Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN).
The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Hj. Sri Ilham Lubis, Lc., M.Pd.I., Head of the Bureau of Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation (AAKK), who highlighted UIN Jakarta's long-standing reputation as Indonesia's oldest, leading, and most trusted State Islamic university.
"As the oldest PTKIN in Indonesia, UIN Jakarta currently operates across four campuses: Campus I on Juanda Street, Campus II on Kertamukti Street, Campus III on Tarumanegara Street and the Professional Teacher Education (PPG) complex, and Campus IV in Cikuya," she explained.
She further noted that the university is equipped with two teaching hospitals, which will play an increasingly significant role in supporting the education and clinical training of medical students.
"In the future, these hospitals will serve as major teaching centers for our Faculty of Medicine, providing students with comprehensive clinical learning opportunities," she added.
Sri Ilham also emphasized that UIN Jakarta's achievement of 29th place worldwide in Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 has strengthened the university's international reputation and serves as a compelling advantage for prospective students.
Pesantren Teknologi Riau operates under the Ummatan Wasathan Foundation, which manages MTs Ummatan Wasathan (Islamic Junior High School), SMK Pesantren Teknologi Riau (Vocational High School), and MA Ummatan Wasathan (Islamic Senior High School). The institution is recognized for integrating industrial standards into its educational model, particularly at the senior secondary level.
Chairman of the Ummatan Wasathan Foundation, Ust. Ahmad Mantiq Alimuddin, Lc., M.A., explained that the establishment of the technology-based pesantren in Riau originated from an initiative proposed during the tenure of former Minister of Religious Affairs KH Muhammad Tholchah Hasan, and that the vision has continued to evolve ever since.
The pesantren combines the Kulliyatul Mu'allimin Al-Islamiyah (KMI) curriculum with the Ministry of Religious Affairs curriculum, offering science and social science streams alongside an applied agricultural technology program.
"We provide an agricultural program where students spend their free time planting and caring for crops. It helps them develop practical skills while reducing academic fatigue," he explained.
He expressed hope that the collaboration with UIN Jakarta would create greater opportunities for graduates to pursue higher education.
"We hope this partnership will continue to grow sustainably and provide valuable information for our students, opening wider opportunities for them to continue their studies at UIN Jakarta and build a brighter future," he said.
Also accompanying the delegation was Datuk H. Raja Marjohan Yusuf, Chairman of the Riau Malay Customary Council (Majelis Kerapatan Adat Lembaga Adat Melayu Riau), who conveyed his optimism regarding the partnership.
"We are delighted to establish this collaboration between Pesantren Teknologi Riau and UIN Jakarta. We have gained many valuable insights today, and we believe this partnership will greatly benefit our students as they prepare for higher education," he remarked.
