Strengthening Academic Reputation, UIN Jakarta's Faculty of Sharia and Law Holds Scientific Journal Consolidation Meeting to Accelerate Publications
Madya Meeting Room, UIN Online News — In a strategic move to solidify UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta’s position as a center of academic excellence both nationally and internationally, the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) convened a journal management consolidation meeting on Tuesday (April 15, 2025). The agenda reflects UIN Jakarta’s commitment to accelerating high-quality scientific publications and advancing the internationalization of its academic journals.
Led by the Dean of FSH, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, S.H., M.A., MDC., the meeting brought together editors from leading journals such as Ahkam, Al-Iqtishad, Mimbar Hukum, and various study program journals. In his opening remarks, Prof. Maksum noted the increasing interest among students in writing and publishing scholarly works. With over 400 active courses, the potential for producing hundreds of articles each semester is substantial.
"Publication acceleration is one of UIN Jakarta's main targets in line with the rector's directive. Our journals must be prepared to meet this challenge with proper strategies and a spirit of collaboration," he emphasized.
To support this acceleration, FSH highlighted the importance of consolidating and strengthening the management of scientific journals, particularly those run by academic programs. Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Nurhidayah, stressed the need for a comprehensive evaluation of journal sustainability. She also proposed merging several program journals to enhance efficiency and quality.
"We need to reassess these journals, classify which programs are active and promising, and identify those that require reinforcement or integration," she stated.
The discussion evolved into an in-depth exploration of achievements and challenges faced by each journal. Ahkam, once a national flagship journal, is currently being prepared for Scopus indexing, while mentoring several other journals already accredited at SINTA 2. Meanwhile, Al-Iqtishad continues to develop as a primary reference in Islamic economics studies, emphasizing its distinctive focus.
Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Tholabi, who also attended the meeting, encouraged all faculty leaders at UIN Jakarta to take a more active role in monitoring and supporting journal management. He highlighted that journals are not just publication tools but also reflect the institution’s academic quality.
In another positive development, the Journal of Comparative Madhhab has successfully attracted international contributors, indicating increased global visibility. The Journal of Sharia Economic Law (HES) recorded strong interest by receiving 70 submissions in its inaugural edition.
A key outcome of the meeting was the reactivation of two previously dormant journals, As-Salam and Cita Hukum, which will now be managed by new human resources, including young alumni, under the mentorship of the Ahkam team. Additionally, three study program journals are set to be merged to improve management efficiency and enhance content quality.
"We're not just pursuing quantity but also journal quality and impact. Our goal is for all FSH journals to achieve SINTA accreditation and gradually enter Scopus. This year marks a turning point in the revival of journals at UIN Jakarta," Prof. Maksum concluded.
With strong commitment and strategic consolidation, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta—through FSH—reaffirms its position not only as a leader in Sharia and legal scholarship but also as a key driver in the development of internationally recognized academic publications.
