STF UIN Jakarta Holds Book Launch for Inclusive Philanthropy Fundraising at FEB Theater

FEB Theater, UIN News Online  – The Social Trust Fund (STF) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, in collaboration with the S1 Islamic Banking Program and Rajawali Publisher, organized a talk show on the topic "Inclusive Philanthropy in Indonesia" and the book launch of "Inclusive Philanthropy Fundraising" on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The event took place at Theater 2, 5th Floor, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UIN Jakarta.

The event featured notable speakers, including Prof. Amelia Fauzia, MA., Ph.D. (Author and Director of STF UIN Jakarta), Haryo Mojopahit (Managing Director of IDEAS Research Institute), and Muhammad Thoriq Helmi (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).

The book titled "Inclusive Philanthropy Fundraising" was published by STF UIN Jakarta and authored by seven Indonesian philanthropy practitioners.

The event was held both offline and online via Zoom meeting. It began with a recitation of verses from the Quran, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem.

Prof. Muhammad Zuhdi, Ph.D., Deputy Director of STF UIN Jakarta, stated that UIN is a state university with its own philanthropy unit, integrating practical and academic philanthropic activities. Initially, STF UIN Jakarta only assisted students in need, but it has since expanded to manage waqf and zakat with support from a decree by the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS).

“STF's collaboration with various partners, both domestic and international, continues. The goal is for research, training, and vocational activities to advance Islamic philanthropy,” he said.

Dr. Erika Amelia, SE, M.Si, Deputy Dean of General Administration of FEB, emphasized the relevance of the event to current conditions. "Philanthropy in Indonesia is growing rapidly, so this book is very beneficial and will contribute significantly to both Indonesia and the international community," she said.

Jaja Zarkasyi, Head of the Waqf and Zakat Asset Security Sub-directorate at the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, explained the importance of waqf land for public interest. Eighty percent of waqf land is used for public purposes, with the remainder for places of worship.

Jaja also stressed that research on zakat and waqf can align long-term development plans by involving practitioners and academics. "We are approaching a new era and aiming for a prosperous Indonesia. Currently, fundraising is focused on cities, but it will eventually spread to all regions," Jaja concluded.
