STF UIN Jakarta distributes scholarships

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Social Trust Fund (STF) UIN Jakarta has distributed educational assistance funds for dozens of students and students in the UIN Jakarta, University of Indonesia, UIN Yogyakarta, and high schools in Papua. This educational assistance is expected to ease the burden of tuition fee for each awardee.

The scholarship was given symbolically by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis, Professor of Islamic History UIN Jakarta Azyumardi Azra, and the Commission VIII DPR RI Chairman Tb. Ace Hasan Syadzily on Wednesday (9/9/2020) and witnessed by the Director and Vice Director of STF UIN Jakarta Amelia Fauzia and Muhammad Zuhdi.

Of the 53 awardees, four of them were postgraduate students who won the Professor Azyumardi Azra Scholarship. Furthermore, five students in a number of high schools in Papua Province also received scholarships called Beasiswa Perdamaian (Peace Scholarship).

In addition, 44 students in UIN Jakarta also received scholarships. This scholarship is given to students who are severely affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. The scholarships for 44 students were symbolically handed over by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis.

Responding to the scholarship award, the Director of STF UIN Jakarta Amelia Fauzia expressed her gratitude to the donors who entrusted their donations through STF UIN Jakarta so that it could be distributed through various scholarship programs. "We are very pleased with the attention of many parties who support scholarships and also applicants (scholarships, ed.)," said Amelia.

Meanwhile, in their respective remarks, Azyumardi Azra and Tb Ace asked the government not to cut the education budget for university and high school students. They agreed that the scholarship and other education budget is an important investments for the nation’s future and should not be cut to help the effort to the COVID-19 mitigation.

Even if it is used for the Covid-19 mitigation effort, continued Azra, these funds should be used to maximize the education sector itself in the form of scholarships or other educational funds. The economic conditions of the people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic already cut their ability to spend more on education. "Therefore, it is necessary to optimize education funding through various government scholarship institutions," said Azra. (usa/zm)
