SPs UIN Jakarta Holds Public Lecture

SPs Auditorium, UIN News Online – UIN Jakarta Post Graduate School (SPs) holds public lecture entitled “Refugees, Asylum, Hate and Hope: Muslim Identity in Turbulent, Multi-faith Europe”. This event present Prof Mike Hardy from Coventry University, England as keynote speaker.

Public lecture that is moderated by Prof Dr JM Muslimin is attended by 200 civitas academica of SPs UIN Jakarta and a number of invited guests is taking place at SPs UIN Jakarta Auditorium, on Thursday, (3/9).

Mike hardy in his presentation, explained that Europe that is often assumed to be a peace and area, is currently facing serious problems related to the refugees from the conflict zones.

According to him, apart from a sense of humanity, there are no consequences in receiving the asylum seekers. “Based on my observation, the essence of this case is that we can learn from each other, learning about the culture, learn about humanity, and learn to make room for those who put great hope in the new place,” said hardy, the former director of British Council in Jakarta.

Based on UIN News online team in the location, the enthusiasm of the participants is quite high. It can be seen from the questions during the discussion by both the students and the lecturers who attended the event.

One of the participants told UIN News online admitted that he obtained more knowledge and information on the current world condition by attending this public lecture.

“I am grateful to be able to follow the lecture, because I am getting to know how other addressing this issues,” he said. (usa)
