Social Minister: The Challenge of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, Human power is replaced by Automation
Main Auditorium, UIN News Online – The impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 for the development of social welfare is that human labor is replaced by automaton. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 leads to digitalization which requires the intelligence, so that the blue collar or unskilled laborers will be shifted by a white collar that prioritizes intelligence.
This was said by the Social Minister of Indonesia Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in his speech during the send-off ceremony for UIN Jakarta’s KKN participants, Monday (07/22/2019), at the Harun Nasution Main Auditorium, campus I of UIN Jakarta.
According to Agus, these challenges must be anticipated by the transformation of the labor market by considering changes in the business and industrial climate and skills needs.
“In this case, attention should be given to rural communities who generally do not have adequate intellectuality and skills,” he said.
Minister also explained about the importance of establishing a policy framework on the inclusive social welfare development for rural communities. He also added that the UIN Jakarta’s academic community in is expected to contribute significantly in constructing the national identities.
“With the title of intellectuals, the academic community of UIN Jakarta is expected to play an active role in the 4.0 industrial revolution momentum,” he added.
In addition to teaching and research, the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi) requires the academics to carry out the community services. Community service programs need to be intensified. However, the campus can also begin to develop sustainable concepts for community development.
“The campus is also expected to produce students who have sensitivity to social welfare problems,” he concluded. (usa/ns)
