Saiful Mujani Becomes Professor of Political Science
Rectorate, UIN News online – The Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Anwar Makariem appoints a lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UIN Jakarta Saiful Mujani as Professor of Political Science. This was stipulated through the Decree of the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture Number 1328 / MPK / KP / 2021 on January 12, 2021.
Saiful was born in Serang on August 8, 1962. Apart from teaching, he also carried out various research and publications in the political field. He also contributed to the establishment of a number of political research institutions in the country, he also actively published a number of research articles in the field of political science.
After completing his undergraduate study at the Ushuluddin Faculty of IAIN Jakarta on 1989, he and his colleagues established the Center for the Study of Islam and Society (PPIM) and became a senior researcher at the institute. In the same institution, he also also involved in the international journal Studia Islamika in addition to the Ulumul Qur'an Journal.
Saiful's interest in political science studies encouraged him to continue his master's degree in political science at Ohio State University, which he completed in 1998. Saiful then pursue his doctoral degree in political science at the same campus, Ohio State University, and graduated in 2003.
After completing his doctoral studies, Saiful returned to teaching activity and involved in many political researches. Saiful joined the political survey institute, the Indonesian Survey Institute, and served as the Executive Director for the 2005-2007 term. However, in 2011, Saiful founded his own research institute under the name Saiful Mujani Research & Consulting (SMRC).
For his work in political studies, Saiful was rewarded with a number of awards. Among them, the Franklin L. Burdette / Pi Sigma Alpha Award from the American Political Science Association (APSA). Prestigious award received by renowned political scientists such as Samuel P. Huntington, Mancur Olson, and Sidney Tarrow. (usa/zm)
