Rhoma Irama Enlivens the 62nd Anniversary of the Faculty of Ushuluddin UIN Jakarta, Discussing Music, Spirituality, and Religious Life

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online - In the framework of the road to milad of the 62nd Faculty of Ushuluddin, Indonesian legendary musician, H. Rhoma Irama was present to fill a talk show entitled “Music, Spirituality, and Our Religious Life” at Harun Nasution Auditorium UIN Jakarta on Sunday (20/10/2024).

The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Prof. Ismatu Ropi, MA, Ph.D., who in his speech expressed his appreciation for Rhoma Irama's presence at this moment. He explained that at this moment is an effort to make the Faculty of Ushuluddin as the oldest faculty at UIN Jakarta become even greater by developing all cross-disciplines that can nourish life.

Then, the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Affairs, Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.d., welcomed and opened this event with pride. As a symbol of the 62nd Anniversary celebration, tumpeng was cut with the hope that the Faculty of Ushuluddin will continue to grow.

Thetalk show was lively, attended by many Ushuluddin Faculty students from various majors who were enthusiastic and actively participated. On this occasion, H. Rhoma Irama talked about music and spirituality, especially about dangdut as a typical Indonesian music which according to him is not only about love, but also touches on social issues, politics, and da'wah values.

“Dangdut music is not only about love, but also about social issues, politics and da'wah,” added H. Rhoma Irama, nicknamed the king of dangdut.

Rhoma Irama explained how religion and music are often considered far apart, but he found a space between the two. “Making music does not mean free association without limits,” he recalled his journey to establish the Soneta group as a form of musical revolution that carries a message of da'wah. Although it was not easy, his efforts and consistency succeeded in making his work accepted by the public. “The power of music can change the character of human being, I can prove it,” he concluded.

The event was very lively, as a closing, Rhoma Irama performed several songs, adding a deep impression to the audience.
