Responding to Global Humanitarian Issues: Minister of Religious Affairs Officially Launches AICIS+ 2025

Jakarta, UIN Online News – The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag RI) once again held the Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS), an international scientific conference held annually. This conference aims to integrate Islamic values with various multidisciplinary knowledge. The Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, opened AICIS+ 2025 at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Auditorium on Wednesday (July 9, 2025).

The opening of AICIS+ 2025 was attended by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, Director General of Islamic Education, Prof. Dr. Suyitno, Secretary General of Islamic Education, Prof. Dr. Askal Salim, Director General of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Phil Sahiron, Rector of the International Islamic University of Indonesia (UIII), Prof. Jamhari as the host of AICIS+ 2025, and Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar.

The year 2025 marks a new chapter for AICIS. Its transformation into AICIS+ is a response to the dynamics of global humanity in actualizing Islam as rahmatan lil alamin (a mercy to all creation), as stated by Minister Nasaruddin Umar in his speech. According to him, Indonesia has the potential to become a center for the revival of modern Islamic civilization in responding to humanitarian issues.

“What humanity is currently facing needs attention. The way we do theology needs to be re-examined. Many realities show that humanity tends to be free from holistic values,” said the Minister.

Director General of Islamic Education, Prof. Amien Suyitno, explained that the transformation of AICIS+ considers the developments of the contemporary world situation. AICIS+ will discuss eight relevant sub-themes, ranging from ecofeminism, decolonization of Islamic studies, to public health in Muslim communities.

Meanwhile, Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., positively welcomed the transformation of AICIS+ as an important step in expanding the space for dialogue between Islam and science and humanitarian issues.

“AICIS+ is a strategic step in bringing Islam into broader dialogue spaces. UIN Jakarta has long introduced the integration of Islam and science in various fields, such as science, medicine, social sciences, and environment. This is an important moment to strengthen our contribution,” said Prof. Asep.

Here is the schedule for AICIS+ 2025: abstract submission began on July 4 and will run until August 15, 2025. Selected abstracts will be announced on August 29, and the conference will take place from October 29-31, 2025, at UIII.

With this transformation, AICIS+ 2025 is expected to open a more comprehensive and strategic dialogue space. Kemenag also invites all scholars from various disciplines to participate, both through scientific papers and by exchanging ideas at AICIS+ 2025.
