Resonance of Solidarity at UIN Jakarta's 136th Graduation: A Humanitarian Call for a Free Palestine

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News - The humanitarian tragedy in Palestine has yet to find an end. Repeated military attacks, prolonged blockades, and a worsening humanitarian crisis have turned the Gaza Strip and West Bank into symbols of the world's long-standing wounds. Every day, sad news continues to flow: children becoming victims, homes collapsing, and basic rights being mercilessly seized.

Amidst this uncertainty, the wave of solidarity from various corners of the world has never subsided. Students, as a critical element in society, have become one of the loudest voices expressing concern over the suffering of the Palestinian people. Protest actions, public discussions, and manifesto readings have occurred on various campuses worldwide.

This wave of support now resonates in Indonesia, especially during the 136th Graduation ceremony of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. In the procession held on Saturday (24/05/2025), a total of 569 male and female graduates voiced a Humanitarian Declaration that firmly stated their stance on the suffering of the Palestinian people.

In the declaration, the graduates voiced:

  • Condemnation of all forms of violence, colonization, and human rights violations against the Palestinian people.
  • Demands for the cessation of military attacks and blockades in Palestinian territories.
  • Support for the right of the Palestinian people to independence and self-determination.
  • A call for global solidarity in the form of education, peaceful actions, humanitarian aid, and diplomatic pressure.

This action became a moment that reinforced that graduation is not only about academic success but also a moment to affirm moral and humanitarian positions.

“We realize that the degrees we achieve today carry a moral responsibility not to remain silent in the face of injustice anywhere,” said Lintang, one of the graduates after the declaration reading.

With this, UIN Jakarta demonstrates that the campus is not only an intellectual space but also a bastion of support for universal humanitarian values.
