Rector: There are no differences between men and women in civil and social aspects

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Indonesian women are partners with men, and there are no difference between them in civil and social aspects.

This was said by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis in her speech during a webinar organized by The World Muslim Communities Council titled “Muslim Women a year After Covid-19: Paths and Future Aspirations” on Monday (03/08/2021).

According to Amany, among the most prominent Indonesian women's issues are the gap between men and women in basic education, violence, and their weak participation in political life. But nowadays, Indonesia has witnessed remarkable development in women status by reducing gaps in the social role of men and women.

“Many women are already at the same level as men so that their roles cannot be ruled out. Many of them take part in government, education and other vital sectors, both at local and international levels,” said Rector.

She also added that there are a number of strategies for solving the problems of educational and economic empowerment of Indonesian women.

“Among them are by organizing educational courses to achieve equality in economic activities, institutionalizing youth activities, and qualifying those in marriage age to prevent extrimism and deviation,” she said.

For information, apart from Rector Amany, other speakers who attended this webinar were Widade Naibi (Director of the Ibn Battuta African Institute in Benin), Rosanna Sirignano (Teaching Assistant and Honorary Fellow at Uni. of Naples), Flavia Martinelli (Lawyer and founding member of the National Association of Jurists, Brazil), Arame Seck (President of the Association of Saviors of God and inspector in Arab schools, Senegal,) and Asya Mokra (Founder of the first social network for Muslim women Ukraine ).
