Rector of UIN Jakarta: The Medical Profession is Not Merely About Material Gain

This statement was delivered during the oath-taking ceremony of 72 new doctors at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, Wednesday (10/23/2024).
"The struggle to study medicine is different from the others. So being a doctor is not just about seeking material, but also reviving and maintaining humanity with all sincerity," said Prof. Asep in his meaningful speech in front of the new doctors.
On the same occasion, the Chancellor also highlighted the importance of developing an academic career for medical graduates. "Some of you must become academics to become successors in the Faculty of Medicine in the future," he emphasized while encouraging new doctors to immediately continue their education to the specialist level.
According to Prof. Asep, the uniqueness of the medical education program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta lies in its integration with Islamic and humanitarian values. Doctors who graduate from UIN Jakarta are expected to not only be proficient in medical aspects, but also have high social sensitivity.
"Becoming a doctor is a great mandate. When someone chooses this profession, he is not only choosing a career, but also choosing to serve humanity," he explained while reminding that every medical action must be based on a sincere intention to help others.
