Rector of UIN Jakarta positively welcomes the guideline on the use of speakers in mosque

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis positively welcomes the the issuance of Circular Letter (SE) of the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs No. 5, 2022 concerning guideline on the use of speakers in mosque across the country.

This was disclosed by Amany to UIN News Online in her office at UIN Jakarta Rectorate Building, campus I of UIN Jakarta on Friday (25/02/2022).

“The circular letter actually has good intentions. It aims to arrange the people in using loudspeakers, such as for the call to prayer and iqamat correctly,” said Amany.

It is the obligation of the Indonesian Ministry of Religios Affairs (MORA) , continued Amany, to systemically regulate matters related to the establishment and management of places of worship of all religions.

“This is also stated in the Joint Regulation of the MORA and the Minister of Home Affairs No. 8 and 9, 2006. Indonesian society is a multicultural society,” she added.

She also asserts that the regulation aims to promote intercommunity order and harmony in Indonesia. “Indonesia's population consists of adherents of different religions, namely Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism,” she said.

She also added that the diversity of the Indonesian people is embodied in the national motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (Unity in Diversity). The motto, said Amany, symbolizes all cultural differences as the basis for national policies, doctrines, philosophy, ideology, and reality since the founding of the Indonesian nation and state.

The concept of cultural pluralism, said Amany, the nation-state, and nationalism, is based on three elements, namely awareness of shared identity, an ideology regarding shared history and a sense of shared destiny, and the existence of a common social movement to achieve a common goal.

“Therefore, the guideline is very appropriate to regulate the religious expression of this pluralistic Indonesian society,” said rector Amany. (al/ns/sam/mf/usa)
