Rector of UIN Jakarta Holds Dialogue with Afghanistan High Peace Council
RSU, UIN News Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Dede Rosyada MA held a dialogue with Afghanistan High Peace Council, at RSU UIN Jakarta, Friday, (24/11/2017).
The High Peace Council (HPC) delegation led by Mohammad Karim Khalili was warmly welcomed by Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Dede Rosyada, accompanied by Vice Rector for Cooperation Prof Dr Murodi. Also present in the event, the Ambassador of Indonesia for Afghanistan Dr. Arief Rachman MD, Head of LP2M UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Arskal Salim GP MA, UIN Jakarta’s AAKK Bureau Chief Drs. H. Zaenal Arifin, M.Pd.I, and all Faculty Deans. The purpose of their visit was to learn about UIN Jakarta’s experiences in maintaining the inter-religious tolerance.
According to Rector, UIN Jakarta has a role model in practicing a tolerant and moderate form of Islam. “As the oldest and the biggest State Islamic University in Indonesia, UIN Jakarta always highly appreciates the diversity and strongly upholds the teaching of tolerance and moderation,” said Rector.
During the meeting, the chief of HPC Mohammad Karim Khalili explained that the HPC wants to find a resolution on the conflict that has been going on in Afghanistan. “We also had a discussion with Islamic organizations in Indonesia on how to find tolerance of the difference of religious belief to maintain the harmony of our society for the future,” Said Mohammad Karim.
In response, Prof Dede Rosyada states that UIN Jakarta is ready to contribute for peace in Afghanistan through education.
“Currently, UIN Jakarta has 3 students who come from Afghanistan. They are being educated so they can become a Muslim-Piety Scholars,” said Dede.
He also added that UIN Jakarta will specifically give 10 scholarships for prospective students from Afghanistan in 2018. “The scholarship awardees are required to participate in Indonesian Language training. This is because most of the lectures given will be delivered in Bahasa,” said Rector.
