Rector of UIN Jakarta appreciates the transformation of 6 IAIN into UIN
Rectorate, UIN News Online – Rector Amany Lubis along with the entire academic community of UIN Jakarta appreciate the transformation of 6 Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) into State Islamic University (UIN). The transformation is expected to increase PTKIN's role in offering wider and better quality of education for the younger generation.
“Representing the academic community of UIN Jakarta, we congratulate the transformation of 6 PTKIN from the Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) into the State Islamic University (UIN). Hopefully this transformation will increase our role to provide quality education for the nation's young generation,” said Rector Amany to UIN News Online on Sunday (05/30/2021).
It is known that the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo signed a number of Presidential Decree (Perpres) regarding the transformation of 6 IAIN into UIN. Currently, the total number of PTKIN that has been transformed into UIN reached 23 UIN with UIN Jakarta being the first PTKIN to be transformed.
Meanwhile, the 6 newest PTKINs that have transformed into UIN are UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung (Presidential Decree No 40 of 2021), UIN Professor Kiai Haji Saifuddin Zuhri Purwokerto (Presidential Decree No. 41 of 2021), and UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta (Presidential Decree No. 42 in 2021), UIN Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda (Presidential Decree No. 43 of 2021), UIN Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember (Presidential Decree No. 44 of 2021), and UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu (Perpres No. 45 of 2021).
Rector Amany hoped that the transformation could expand the educational role of the six PTKIN by increasing the number of study programs and faculties. “This will expand the opportunity for Indonesia's younger generation to access education in the wider field of science,” said Amany.
The presence of 23 new UIN itself, continued Amany, is an optimistic prospect that can expand PTKIN's role in offering an integrated vision of education.
“In addition to Islamic religious science, the transformation also allows PTKIN to contribute to the non-religious or secular science,” she said. (usa/zm)
