Rector of UI: PTN BH Must Have an international competitiveness
Rectorate, UIN News Online – The Rector of Universitas Indonesia (UI) Ari Kuncoro stated that the legal entity university (PTN-BH) are required to have international competitiveness which is determined by international reputation and adequate human resources.
“International reputation is not only determined by the number of scientific publications but also determined by the quality and innovation of scientific works produced,” said Ari in his speech during the 2021 UIN Jakarta Leadership meeting (Rakerpim) on Wednesday (03/10/2021).
According to Ari, there are three factors that greatly influence PTN BH. First, PTN BH must have academic excellence, which is determined by the science authorities.
First, the reputation of PTN BH is not only indicated by the number of scientific publications produced but also by the quality improvement and innovation of scientific work or producing something new. Second, all lecturers, employees, and students must be able to adapt towards change and leave their comfort zone.
In this position, PTN BH is not only determined by publications but also more by reputation. Therefore, PTN BH must be recognized by other universities abroad, especially the reputable universities.
“This is determined by scientific work, the existence of a prototype or there must be a figure, such as professors who are recognized in other countries. To realize this effort, it is necessary to have another strategy, including the acceleration of human resources,” he said.
The third factor is that PTN BH must have graduates who are able to compete with foreign graduates. These graduates will be recorded as the ability of a university to improve the human resources of a country.
Ari also added that university graduates should be ready to adapt. However, currently there is still an assumption among students that their success is determined by their GPA.
“In fact, competition in the world of work is not determined by a high GPA but by adaptability, namely how the university graduates can work with other parties or work in a team,” he concluded. (usa/ns)
