Rector of UGM: Health System Resilience Have an Important Role in Realizing Golden Indonesia in 2045

Diorama Room, UIN News Online – There are many ways in realizing Golden Indonesia in 2045. One of them is through health system resilience.

This was said by the Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta Ova Emilia in her speech during National Webinar organized by UIN Jakarta titled “Visi Indonesia 2045 untuk Penguatan Ketahanan Nasional” held at Diorama room, campus I of UIN Jakarta on Monday (06/20/2022).

“The health system is an important component for the resilience of a nation and state,” said Ova.

National resilience in the health sector in Indonesia's 2045 Vision means that there are many aspects that must be improved. One of them is an increase in life expectancy. For example, if the current life expectancy is between 73-74 years, it is expected to increase to 75.5 years.

Moreover, increasing access to good quality and equitable health services, increasing the production of drugs and medical devices in the country, mastering technology and utilizing biodiversity, developing a system for preventing and controlling diseases including transnational diseases, realizing puskesmas as a center for driving health-oriented development, community empowerment, and comprehensive health services, ensuring the sustainability of national health insurance, and strengthening capacity in dealing with climate change.

“This vision is directly correlated with health system resilience and health security,” she said.

Ova also said that the test of a health system resilience can be seen when an unexpected disaster occurs in a country. It can show the readiness of a country in reducing risk, both in short and long term.

“Health system resilience needed in the facing the major changes in the health sector,” she said.

According to Ova, there are many factors that can affect the resilience of a country's health system, namely community involvement, human resources, drug management and financial needs, drug products and technology, how the public health system functions, and health services.
