Rector of UBB: World of Education Experiences the Gap in Digitalization

Diorama Room, UIN News Online – Rector of Universitas Bangka Belitung (UBB) Ibrahim said that the rapidly changing world created a big challenge in the form of distance between digital immigrants and digital natives. This distance occurs in the world of education.

“There is one big challenge that I think is happening in the world of education, namely how to overcome the gap between digital immigrants and digital natives,” said Ibrahim in his speech during National Webinar organized by UIN Jakarta titled “Visi Indonesia 2045 untuk Penguatan Ketahanan Nasional” held at Diorama room, campus I of UIN Jakarta on Monday (06/20/2022).

According to him, many problems are quite complicated outside the capital city. He took an example, namely the issue of internet access which has not been felt evenly in various regions and has an impact on hampering the implementation of online teaching and learning activities.

“This is what policy makers in Jakarta often do not realize. Until now, the problem is still ongoing,” he said.

Currently, he continued, there are still many gaps in the world of education, especially in small campuses that need to be addressed immediately. The gap is in the form of a lack of adaptation related to technology from educators which sometimes hinders the student development.

“There are many campuses where students are able to adapt, but the lecturers are not. Many students are smart because now they can get learning resources from various media, such as Youtube and the internet. But because the lecturers don't want to change, students can't be smart. So, the lecturer is considered to be hampering the intelligence of students,” said Ibrahim.

Ibrahim expressed his concern regarding the demographic bonus that will occur in Indonesia. According to him, the demographic bonus that occurs must be read carefully. If not ready, Indonesia will be trapped in the demographic bonus that will create a demographic burden.

The National Seminar in the context of the 65th Anniversary of UIN Jakarta also presented other speakers. Among them are Professionals in the Field of National Resilience and Leadership of the Indonesian National Defense Institute (Lemhanas) Lumban Sianipar, Rector of Universitas Pertahanan Amarulla Octavian, Governor of the Indonesian Air Force Academy (AAU) Eko Dono, and Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada Ova Emilia.

The seminar was opened by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis and moderated by the Director of Social Trust Fund (STF) UIN Jakarta and Chair of the Organizing Committee for the 65th Anniversary of UIN Jakarta who also serve as Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Ali Munhanif.
