Rector of ITB: 4.0 Industrial revolution demands all universities to be more adaptive
Bandung, UIN News Online – The 4.0 industrial revolution is believed to bring considerable changes to the humanitarian civilization. The industrial revolution influence will change the existing social orders, including universities. Therefore, all educational institutions are expected to adapt to these impacts.
This was conveyed by Rector of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) Kadarsyah Suryadi when giving an exposure titled “Pengembangan Akademik di Era Industri 4.0” in Bandung, Saturday (03/30/2019). He was invited as an expert guest speaker at the UIN Jakarta Leadership Meeting (Rakerpim) 2019.
According to Kadarsyah, the 4.0 industrial revolution is an important phase of industrial history in human civilization. It was marked by the ability of humans to use the power of machinery to be used in fulfilling their daily needs.
The presence of this revolution is marked by five accompanying trends; democratization of digital access and knowledge, integration of higher institutions with industry, massive global mobility, and tight market competition.
“As a higher education institution, we are required to produce graduates who are ready to face these challenges,” he said.
These various trends and challenges will be quite influential for the nation’s future. In addition to mastering their respective fields, graduates are also required to master various technological developments.
“When technology is more advanced, a nurse is not only required to master the nursing field, but also the ability to operate advanced nursing tools,” said Kadarsyah.
Therefore, the higher education institution such as UIN Jakarta and other PTKIN are required to be adaptive in managing its curriculum and teaching methods. (usa)
