Rector: Millenials must obliged the diversity
Pamulang, UIN News Online – Millennials must grow as a strong generation that respects the diversity. This was said by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis when giving material at the religious National Seminar “Harmonisasi Keberagaman dan Kebangsaan Bagi Generasi Milenial”, at the Pamulang University Auditorium, Saturday (12/14/2019).
According to the Rector, According to the chancellor, tolerance and respect for diversity have been exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad in the Medina Charter which was agreed upon with the people of Medina.
“We must take an example of what the Prophet had done at that time. We must always respect diversity,” said Rector.
She further explained that the Medina Charter is an important constitution which is an example of how diversity needs to be respected. Madinah society at that time consisted of various ethnic and religious beliefs. In addition to the Muslim community, both Muhajirin and Ansar, Medina also consisted of Jewish, Christian, and various ethnic backgrounds.
“The Medina Charter itself has 47 articles governing the life of the people of Medina. These articles regulate the rights and obligations of the people of Medina, including accommodating the minority needs,” she said.
The Rector also added that an attitude of tolerance and respect is considered very necessary when the threat that could endanger the nation continues to show its strength at the global-national level. Radical attitudes with extremist tendencies emerge in various regions to cause a lot of social and political chaos as is taking place in the Middle Eastern countries.
At the same time, the millenials needs to prepare themselves to become a formidable and competent generation in the coming era. In addition to increasing their respective expertise, they also need to improve their language skills as an important prerequisite in global competition.
“Equip yourself by improving your language skills, English, Mandarin, Japanese, and Arabic. That way, your chance to win the competition in this era will increase,” she advised.
