Rector invites all Muslims to conduct joint prayer on May 14

Rectorate, UIN News Online – The Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis invites all Muslim and followers of other religions to conducts joint prayer on Thursday (05/14/ 2020) at the invitation of His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed el-Tayeb.

“I received a direct letter from the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar. In his letter, he called on people on earth to pray together so that the Covid-19 pandemic would soon disappear from the earth,” she said.

According to the Rector, this momentum is needed by all Muslims in the world to unite spiritually and pray that Covid-19 is lifted from the surface for the safety of mankind. She also added that UIN Jakarta also scheduled the inter-religious praying activity on Thursday (05/14/ 2020) by inviting all components of society to unite against the Covid-19 pandemic.

A call for joint prayer on 14 May was initiated by the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity. The committee was formed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in February last year by Grand Sheikh Al Azhar Ahmed el-Tayeb and Pope Francis. The Higher Committee of Human Fraternity comprises a diverse set of international religious leaders, educational scholars and cultural leaders who were inspired by the Document on Human Fraternity, and are dedicated to sharing its message of mutual understanding and peace.

The Committee also hopes that the humanitarian prayer will inspire the scientists to immediately find the Covid-19 vaccine and save the world from all its effects, both in terms of health, economy and humanity.
