Rector: Integration is the Foundation for Nation's Progress

FITK, UIN News Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis emphasized that the integration of science and Islam is necessary to encourage the progress of Indonesia to grow as a developed country in terms of science, Islam, and humanity in the future.

This was said by Rector in her speech during webinar themed “Integrasi Keilmuan dan Keislaman Melalui Literasi Digital Menuju Indonesia Emas 2045” organized by the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training Sciences (FITK) UIN Jakarta, Wednesday (05/25/2022).

According to Rector Amany, the integration of knowledge as the foundation of Indonesia's progress can be positioned for its significance in Indonesia's Vision in 2045 and Indonesia's leadership at the G20 Forum.

Rector also added that the spirit of integration can be carried out by constantly exploring the scientific messages contained in the Qur’an. “There are scientific signs in more than one thousand verses of Holy Qur’an,” said Rector.

Referring to the long history of Islamic civilization, she said, the progress of Islam in its golden era was supported by the presence of scholars who carried the spirit of integration. UIN Jakarta itself, she continued, has realized the importance of integrating science and Islam since the 1970s or during the leadership of Prof. Dr. Harun Nasution.

“This continues to be emphasized in the institution's academic work which resulted in the transformation of UIN Jakarta from IAIN to UIN in 2002,” she said.

Meanwhile, the pattern of scientific integration at UIN Jakarta is carried out from two directions. First, by reading and undertstanding the verses of the Qur'an, then prove it through natural phenomena so that we can learn about whatever is in the Qur'an. Second, by observing natural phenomena and technological advances to prove that the verses of the Qur'an have contributed to the development of science.

For information, several speakers were invited as resource persons, including Prof. Mohammad Ali, M.A, from UPI Bandung, Dr.-Ing. Suparno Satira, DEA from ITB, Dr. Ahmad Shodiq, M.Ag., and Dr. Zulfiani, S.Si., M.Pd from FITK UIN Jakarta. (zm/usa)
