Rector highlights the role of women in harmonious society

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Women in Indonesia are the most decisive subjects in promoting community peace and security. Therefore, we must continue to increase the capacity of women in all fields. This was said by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis in her speech during webinar entitled “Women on the Frontlines of Peace and Security” on Thursday (03/25/2021) and attended by a number female activists from various countries. “Based on our experience in Indonesia, women play a significant role in promoting harmonious society. Women have a significant role in the family and public environment,” said Rector Amany. The role, she continued, could not be separated from the role of women in Indonesian families. Apart from being housewives, they also play a major role by being the first teachers for their children. In addition, women also play a role in the economic resilience of the family. In fact, not a few women are active in the public sphere by occupying the same professions as men. In that case, she continued, the role of government and religious organizations such as the Indonesian Ulema Council also an important factor in maximizing women's capacity. “We encourage women to play an active role in the public sphere without neglecting their role in the household,” added Rector Amany. For information, apart from Amany Lubis, several women from religious organizations and universities in Southeast Asia also presented their findings on the role of women in their respective countries. All of them agreed on the need to increase the capacity of women in promoting a harmonious social life. (usa/zm)
